Is There A Difference Between A Regular Toothbrush and Electric?

October 6, 2016

Advantages of Electric Toothbrushes

Do you want to take the best care of your teeth as possible? Do you ever wonder if you should be using an electric toothbrush or if you are actually gaining an advantage by using one? The fact of the matter is if you use a regular toothbrush for the proper amount of time you will see the same results as if you are using an electric toothbrush.

That being said, there are some circumstances where an electric toothbrush will give the user an advantage. One group of people who will benefit from an electric toothbrush are young kids. The reason for this is that kids are amazed by electric toothbrushes and might brush for a longer period of time if using an electric toothbrush instead of a regular one. Additionally, kids often do not have the best brushing habits and it will help them clean their teeth despite that. Other people that might benefit from an electric toothbrush are people with troubles like coordination issues, arthritis, orthodontic devices, gum disease, and more. These conditions can often prevent people from properly brushing and removing all the plaque from their teeth.

Even the American Dental Association (ADA) has joined the argument of electric vs. regular toothbrush. The group says standard toothbrushes may be just as effective as powered ones. However, the key to preventing tooth decay depends on the method a toothbrush is used.
